Blog v Wiki

Wikis are open source sites where the readers and those in charge can freely edit and add information to the wiki of their choosing. Wikis are incredibly useful for companies who are woking on projects and they allow team members to share documents pertinent to the project. A drawback to a wiki will be that it only allows for the use of HTML files. A blog on the other hand is a site where a person writes about their personal interests and puts on the web in hopes of finding readers who share similar interests and where they can discuss whatever hobby it is they are interested. Both these forms of media are what has led to the most important aspect of today's world. This is the convergence in which the artists and their audience have the ability to interact with one another almost instantaneously. There are several disadvantages to each of the forms of media however.
Tumblr for example which is a popular blogging site has seen a plateau in the traffic to its site. According to an article by Jeff Bercovici in Forbes magazine titled "Yahoo's next problem: Tumblr traffic isn't growing," the reason for traffic to the site going down or rather not growing is because of other sites who also provide similar content to found in Tumblr.  Another problem that the author writes that could have affected Tumblr's stock with it's audience is the fact that is bought by Yahoo, which to some of its consumers could have meant that the site is simply part of a larger corporation and not an independent site for users to use.
Wikis also face problems on the other end of spectrum. They might start out with good intentions, but may ultimately be stopped by the ill intentions of the users. In the article,"Wikis for Business," by Ezra Goodnoe in Information Weekly, states that during June 2005 The Los Angeles Times started a Wiki with the focus being on the Iraq War and invited its readers to be able to edit. Unfortunately, during the following days the wiki was bombarded with inappropriate content by internet jokers, and the Wiki was taken down several days later.
Blogs can be used for collaboration by allowing users and content creators to discuss any hobbies that they might have and encouraging one another and giving each other tips on how to further enjoy their hobby.
I cannot think of a new idea for a wiki to be used in since I believe that the most effective way that they can be used in is for businesses in order to improve workflow and efficiency.
